About us page
Hey Y'all,
I'm Bam. I'm the owner and founder of RTR Rattery. I made it back in 2012©. We started back in West Virginia. And moved state to Ohio about 9 years ago. We are a small hobby breeder. I breed for the best Temperament and health I can. And this takes time. Alot of time. We name and form bonds with every single rat[s] we have. They are treated like family. So, breeding is not just all they are here for. They're cages are right in my living room. So they are around my family pretty much all the time. We also allow them to have free roam for so many hours a day. So that way they are not caged all the time. Which I don't like them caged to much to be honest. I feel as if they should be able to have that free time to get energy out. And it feel freedom. An animal really meant to spend they're whole life caged up.
We take our time and let our females grow until they are around 6-7 months old. We sometimes wait even longer then that before they are bred. We take our time with them. Let them grow some. We try to make sure they are at a good healthy weight and that they fit the temperament I am looking for to be apart of my breeding program.. I am very picky on what I breed and who I breed. Not all I keep back for breeding make the cut. Sometimes I end up keeping them or they go for pet homes,IF they can pass my own personal testing I came up with way back in WV. BUT Just like any other breeder, I am still learning. And yes, I do make mistakes. And it has taken me years to get it to where it is now. But, no breeder is perfect. And that's the truth.
Now, to the most asked questions, here's the answers and information ......Our rats are housed in Double Nation critter cages. Mothers are in bins with cut out sides and tops to be able to breath..The cut out part are replaced with wire mess. Yes, I use bedding. I use the big bag at tractor supply for only $7. Has no dust.
Our rats are feed rat blocks with a mix of fruits and veggies. I like mixing things up and give them dog food also mixed in with they're rat blocks. It is a low protein dog food. I also get that from tractor supplies.. Along with a nut mix, sunflower seeds, yogurt, baby snacks and yes they do get some human foods that I cook for dinner. As long as it's not harmful to them than they get it. My rats are so spoiled they get bottled water. Never water from the sink.
Like I have stated I do my best to keep them as healthy as I can.
This might just be a hobby for others. But, I put so much hard work into this. I really do try to please my adopters. I am a people person, mostly animal lover. But, yeah. Anyways.... Here are a few things adopters have said about us or to us about our rats. Just to show that we aim to please.
Do not get me wrong, yes we aim to please our adopters. But, that does not me we do not take our rats serious. They do come first and not just anyone can get them. Do have and will turn someone down we do not find fit for them. Yes, i understand that sounds bad and sounds like we are stuck up but, truth be told we are not stuck up. We just truly do care about our rats and where they end up. I have had people message me and ask some very odd questions and after I did some digging and questioning only to find out the homes in question was not a good fit. I have the right by law to turn any home down, That I don't feel is a right fit. But, I try to not judge so much. That is not my place. I am just here to make sure my babies I make are put in good homes and that's just what I'm aiming for.
